Salary Ranges

$93,739 - $123,369
Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

The dean of academic services for the school of science, math, and technical education is responsible for the leadership of the faculty and staff in the school for both noncredit and credit courses.  As the academic head of the school, the dean provides the vision and leadership that ensures quality in teaching and learning and the effective growth of academic programs in alignment with the academic, college strategic, and enrollment plans. Under the current strategies, this includes a focus on engagement of instruction, effectiveness of course design, and quality of the program curricula. The dean builds partnerships across the college and within the community, spearheads college initiatives, promotes educational innovations, and establishes both noncredit and credit schedule which promotes student completion.

This position is required to travel to our off-campus sites. Some evening and occasional weekend hours are required.

The position reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Services and Student Development and provides supervision and evaluation for the faculty and Science Lab Assistant Managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, orients, supervises, and evaluates staff, program coordinators, lab assistant managers, and faculty.
  • Responsible for scheduling and staffing of all credit courses in collaboration with the deans of other schools, online education, concurrent enrollment, and enrollment management.
  • Performs monthly duties at our off-campus sites at Allentown Donley Center and Tamaqua Morgan Center Tamaqua to develop noncredit and credit schedules with site supervisors and to meet with and observe faculty teaching at the site locations.
  • Fosters faculty professional development, and recruiting/retaining/supporting excellent faculty.
  • Promotes faculty engagement using shared governance.
  • Responsible for scheduling and staffing of noncredit and credit courses in collaboration with the deans of other schools, online education, concurrent enrollment, workforce and leadership development, and enrollment management.
  • Approves faculty class schedules.
  • Provides day-to-day support for faculty, addresses faculty concerns, and supports faculty innovations.
  • Responds to student issues and supports student initiatives.
  • Oversees program accreditation activities, program and course assessment reporting, curriculum feasibility and compliance.
  • Understands the potential exposure of the compliance risk and ensure measures are in place to proactively mitigate those
  • exposures.
  • Participates in the program 5-year Academic Audit process and all curricular assessments.
  • Manages school office, budget, and labs.
  • Serves as a member of the president’s cabinet and Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with other leadership and members of the college community to advance the college’s goals, mission, and
  • strategic, academic, and enrollment plans.
  • Create the conditions for the division to establish and maintain productive relationships with internal College partners and
  • external community partners to advance collaborative and innovative programming and resources to support equitable student
  • success and literacy.
  • Acts as administrative liaison with committees and councils.
  • Coordinates faculty professional development, particularly in pedagogy and interdisciplinary learning, emphasizing continuous improvement of technical skills and curricular innovations.
  • Promotes the college’s interests with internal and external constituencies.
  • Develops and maintains an operational manual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the vice president for academic services and student support.

Qualifications:

Required

Education

  •  Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.

Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)

      Work Experience

  • Five years administrative experience.
  • Experience in collegiate teaching, faculty professional development, and recruiting/retaining/supporting excellent faculty.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment using shared governance. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must demonstrate experience in working with faculty to develop innovative programs, write grants, increase student success/retention, and fashion articulation agreements.
  • Must have well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills in addition to embracing diversity in the college community.
  • Must demonstrate analytical and communication skills as demonstrated by an ability to use data lead change effectively.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the comprehensive community college.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Preferred

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution college or university in science, engineering and math.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
