Salary Ranges

$15 to $22.40
Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

The part-time ELL/Placement Testing Navigator is responsible for bridging the intake process between admissions and enrollment by placing and guiding ELL students. The navigator connects ELL students with credit placement testing, non-credit, or credit pathways in ELL. The ELL Navigator counsels prospective and current ELL students according to the policies and procedures of the college-level, credit-based, and non-credit ELL program at LCCC. This position also assists in developing methods that maximize the efficiency of the ELL placement process, collection and interpretation of data, and collaboration with student service departments on campus, including the non-credit ELL program. The ELL Navigator reports directly to the Assistant Director of Literacy.  Required to travel to all LCCC sites – Schnecksville/Tamaqua.

The part-time ELL/Placement Testing Navigator will assist non-ELL students at the Donley Center with placement testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist ELL students as they navigate the non-credit and credit application process.
  • Meet with students on a walk-in basis and by appointment (on campus and online) in Allentown, Schnecksville, and/or Tamaqua.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for students and inform them about ELL programs, placement testing, and tuition based on citizenship/eligible noncitizenship/residency status.
  • Administer computer-based ELL credit placement tests regularly on campus, online, and off-site when necessary.
  • Assist students in the transition from the non-credit program to credit programs and/or career goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of the ELL pathway at LCCC.
  • Collaborate with appropriate campus departments to provide referrals on tuition, financial aid, billing procedures, and payment options.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources, such as tutoring, coaching, and counseling.
  • Attend staff meetings and maintain the operations manual.
  • Uphold College policies, including FERPA regulations.
  • Cultivate an equitable, multicultural, student-centered environment.
  • Utilize administrative computing systems such as Ellucian Banner, Appointment Manager, TargetX, etc.
  • Undertakes specialized projects, duties, and/or functions as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

Education

  • Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.

Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)

     Work Experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience working with international/immigrant/multilingual populations.
  • Excellent spoken/written communication skills, interpersonal/intercultural skills, and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Solid analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, learning management systems, and video software.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Preferred

  • ELL teaching experience in college
  • Bi-lingual- English/Spanish or English/Arabic.
  • Knowledge of language proficiency assessment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
