The Volunteer Tutor Specialist is responsible for overseeing the recruitment, onboarding, and planning for the volunteer tutor and classroom aide program. Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Literacy.

*Contingent upon grant funding from the Tutoring Program for Adults grant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide classroom aide and tutor training in accordance with College and Career Readiness Standards, agency PD plan, grant guidelines, and LCCC developed curriculum.
  • Recruit volunteer tutors and classroom aides through marketing efforts, including but not exclusive to participating in community activities, producing printed and online recruitment materials, and accessing established networks/resources.
  • Administers standardized assessments for both day and evening students within the program
  • Collaborate with partners on programming activities and service opportunities.
  • Submit student and tutor e-data information and other instruction related documents in a timely, organized manner.
  • Use the e-data system to make sure data is correct and to use e-data reports for instructional planning and professional development activities.
  • Recommend for purchase and manage resources both for instruction and for professional development activities for all student and tutors pairs.
  • Facilitate orientation for new students in the ESL and HSE programs.
  • Work with instructors to onboard classroom aides into classrooms, follow a system for referral and communicate on student learning plans.
  • Engage and educate potential partners of LCCC offerings and forge new partnerships as a pipeline for students.
  • Collaborate with and maintain a presence with community partners to provide and promote services.
  • Monitor goal attainment related to the grant specifications and career pathways model.
  • Provide input on grant projects and program development.
  • Participate with program director to create and maintain the program improvement requirements and communicate with the state professional development system.
  • Work with program director and state professional development system to coordinate program improvement and professional development activities for staff.
  • Assist the staff in the use of the online professional development tracking system.
  • Attend required state and program meetings and conferences.
  • Assure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Math, Elementary or Secondary Education, Social Work or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Foreign degrees – must provide a US equivalency report of your degree credentials with your transcript, if not, your resume will not be accepted.

 Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting)

 Work Experience

  • Must have experience working with diverse populations.
  • Must have experience in program administration.

 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience with Professional Development training, coaching, recruiting, coordination, needs assessment and system planning.
  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors:  teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer services and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certification, Special education/ESL certification and/or teaching experience with adults.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
