The Pennsylvania state legislature (‘ACT 153’) sought to strengthen protections for children in the PA Child Protective Services Law.  This went into effect on December 31, 2014, and now requires colleges and universities to obtain background clearances for any individual having routine interaction with children at the college or in a college-sponsored program, activity or service.  This requirement applies to college employees, volunteers, independent contractors and students.

Students completing fieldwork outside of Pennsylvania are responsible for meeting the clearance requirements of their specific state. A guide is available from the Department of Homeland Security here, but please ensure that your state requirements are up to date.

You will receive emails on how to obtain your clearances from Dr. Rachel Chapman once you are registered for classes. This will explain the process for obtaining clearances. You should begin this process as soon as possible. For additional questions, contact Dr. Chapman at rchapman1@lccc.edu.
