Students Interested in Nursing Career Receive Support through New Partnership
Schnecksville, Pa., Nov. 8, 2023 – Through a unique local partnership, students interested in a career in nursing will have financial support and guidance to begin their career journey as early as high school and continue through to college degree completion.
A memorandum of understanding between Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) and Cedar Crest College (CCC) will assist students throughout their journey. Through several entry points, students at various stages of life and experience can enroll at LCCC to complete their associate degree, then transfer to Cedar Crest College for their bachelor’s degree, primarily for a career in nursing. Students considering other careers in a hospital setting, including business, human resource management and communications, will also be considered.
In addition, students can enter a career in nursing using the following pathways:
Allentown School District students enrolled in the Century Promise program who complete credit coursework at LCCC;
High school graduates eligible for admission to LCCC;
Students attending LCCC under the dual admission agreement with Cedar Crest or completing their nursing associate degree to transfer to Cedar Crest to earn their B.S.N.
Adults returning to college to earn their first college degree; and
Veterans
Scholarships, grants and other funding will also support students on this pathway.
“This partnership agreement helps to ensure that students in our community will be able to pursue a college degree and enter into a career that is fulfilling, pays family sustaining wages and meets workforce needs in our area,” says LCCC President Dr. Ann D. Bieber. “Continuing to find innovative pathways for students to move from high school, to college and into a career contributes to a vital community.”
“I am so proud to partner with Lehigh Carbon Community College to address the severe shortage of nurses in the Lehigh Valley,” said Cedar Crest College President Dr. Elizabeth Meade.
